Nestled in the heart of the Southern Adelaide Hills, Longview Vineyard is a family-owned estate that brings the best of Italian-inspired winemaking to Australia. Owned and operated by the Saturno family, we produce a remarkable range of estate-grown wines, all crafted from our 60-hectare vineyard. Our unique location, with its diverse valley landscape, offers the perfect conditions for both red and white varietals to flourish.
The vineyard is renowned for its meticulously tended plantings of traditional Northern Italian varieties, such as Barbera, Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo, Cabernet, and Shiraz on the northern slopes. Meanwhile, white varieties like Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Grigio thrive on the cooler southern side, where the climate helps preserve the freshness and acidity of the grapes.
Longview Vineyard is a true gem in the Mt Lofty Ranges, one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world. Our vineyard sits between 310 and 400 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking views of the Southern Ocean and the Coorong, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed coastal lagoon. The region’s unique climate, with warm days followed by cool southern winds, creates a high diurnal range that results in wines with exceptional depth and character.
The journey began in 1995 when Longview’s first vines were planted, transforming the land from a dairy farm into a thriving vineyard. Since then, Longview has garnered numerous awards, becoming one of the most celebrated single-vineyard estates in Australia. Under the ownership of the Saturno family, who took the reins in 2007, Longview has continuously invested in improving both the vineyard and its facilities.
Nebbiolo: The Heart of Longview Vineyard
At Longview, Nebbiolo holds a special place in our heart and our vineyard. Known for its complexity and ageing potential, Nebbiolo is one of the key varietals that sets us apart. Our estate boasts some of the oldest and largest plantings of Nebbiolo in Australia, a testament to our commitment to this noble Italian variety. Nebbiolo thrives in the cool climate, developing rich aromas of rose, cherry, and dried herbs, balanced by firm tannins and a bright acidity. This combination of structure and elegance makes Nebbiolo a standout in our collection, offering a wine that evolves beautifully with age. Whether enjoyed young for its fresh fruit character or cellared to develop deeper, more complex flavours, Longview Nebbiolo reflects the unique identity of our estate, making it a true expression of the Southern Adelaide Hills.
More Than Just Wine: A Destination Experience
At Longview, we believe in creating an experience that extends beyond the glass. Our Cellar Door, housed in a striking building made from local pink sandstone, is a testament to modern rural style. With its recycled timber, steel accents, and floor-to-ceiling glass, it offers stunning panoramic views of the vineyard and the surrounding landscape. We invite you to relax and enjoy our evolving menu, featuring the finest local produce paired with our premium wines.
In addition to wine tastings, we offer a complete experience, including a wedding venue, luxurious accommodation, authentic Italian-inspired cuisine, and even a Day Spa. Longview Vineyard is a key destination on the Adelaide Hills Food and Wine Trail, providing visitors with the chance to immerse themselves in our beautiful region while enjoying the best of local hospitality.
Our Commitment to Sustainability and Community
We are proud to acknowledge the Peramangk people, the traditional custodians of the land on which Longview Vineyard sits. We aim to honour their deep connection to the land through sustainable farming practices and a long-term commitment to preserving the health and vitality of the vineyard. Longview is a certified sustainable business and is one of the few eco-vineyards in Australia working with native flora and fauna within our vines.
The region’s rich history and heritage, including its renowned marble quarries, add to the unique story of Longview. While the area was once dominated by mixed farming, it was not until 1995 that vines were introduced to Macclesfield. Since then, Longview has played an integral role in the growth of the Adelaide Hills wine industry.
