How did you end up in insurance — was it always the plan, or did you “fall into it” like most of us?

Like most people in insurance, it definitely wasn’t the childhood dream.

I fell into the industry and quickly realised it combined problem‑solving, relationship building and learning how different people & businesses actually work.

Once I saw the impact good advice can have when things go wrong, I was hooked.

If you had to explain what you do to someone at a BBQ in one sentence, what would you say?

I help people/businesses protect what they’ve built and make sure they’re properly supported when something unexpected happens.

What’s the biggest “uh-oh” moment you see people make with their insurance?

Assuming everything is covered without actually checking the detail.

Policies alter, businesses evolve, people’s lives change and insurance that was right two years ago can be very wrong today.

Tell us about a time you really came through for a client — the kind of situation that reminds you why your job matters.

Supporting clients through significant claims is always a reminder of why the role matters. One example that really stands out is assisting two clients who lost everything in the recent Murray flooding, with claims exceeding $500,000 each.

Being involved from the early stages, advocating on their behalf, and helping them rebuild during an incredibly stressful time reinforced the importance of having the right advice and support in place.

Another recent example involved a technically complex claim where the insurer was delaying their response on indemnity. By working through the policy detail and presenting a clear, well‑structured argument, we were able to have the claim accepted, which made a significant difference to the client’s outcome.

Being able to step in during high‑pressure situations, take the stress off clients, and ensure claims are handled properly so they can focus on keeping their business running is what makes the job so rewarding.

What’s one thing clients are always surprised to learn once they start working with you?

How proactive insurance should be. A lot of clients expect insurance to be transactional, but the real value comes from regular conversations, ongoing reviews, and making sure cover keeps pace as their business evolves.

I also like having all the i’s dotted and t’s crossed, so there are no surprises when it really matters.

When you’re not talking insurance, what are you doing — and what’s something about you people wouldn’t expect?

When I’m not talking insurance, spending time with family and friends is a top priority.

Travel is also a big part of our lives, and we regularly seek out new adventures around the world – Bali, Vietnam, Cambodia, Colombia & America (got married in Vegas) are some of the places we have visited. Exploring new places, cultures, and experiences is something I really value and always look forward to.

Something people wouldn’t expect is that I can ride a unicycle, juggle, and walk on stilts — I grew up around the circus, so those skills stuck.

Important question: what’s your go-to movie, TV show or book — and are you recommending it or just admitting it? 😄

A good quality BBC crime or drama series is always my go‑to. Definitely recommending it.
